Out of this World for the Brave

The New York Wind Symphony is delighted to announce their Opening Gala Performance, Out of this World for the Brave, at the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center on September 13th, 2014. The Wind Symphony, led by award-winning conductor, Richard F. Regan, is comprised of some of the region’s finest symphonic winds and percussionists with a special affinity for wind band music. Founded in 1989 by Dr. John P. Lynch, it began with a mission to present the finest repertoire to our community, and in doing just that, has further become a major source of inspiration and opportunity for many young musicians and vocalists in the area with programs such as “Play with the Pros” and the “NYWS Honors Chorus”.

For their triumphant return to the Sugar Loaf PAC, the NYWS has chosen to perform the joyfully exuberant Short Ride in a Fast Machine by American composer, John Adams.  The piece will be followed by legendary composer John Williams iconic work The Star Wars Trilogy.  Finally, witness a thrilling journey through our solar system as we perform Gustav Holst’s masterpiece, The Planets, featuring a stunning montage of images from NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope.  Each of the short films in this critically-acclaimed suite includes awe-inspiring images of the featured planet, historical illustrations, and space visualizations. The film is not intended to be seen as a documentary but rather as an art piece that aims to inspire audiences and encourage them to learn more about our solar system and the Universe. This will be the World Premier of this critically-acclaimed film performed with Wind Orchestra, produced and directed by Jose Francisco Salgado.

Please join the New York Wind Symphony on September 13th at 8pm as we honor the brave men and women who serve our country overseas and at home! Proceeds from the September 13th Concert will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and The Committee for the Families of War Veterans, a Hudson Valley based Veterans charitable organization.
